Does Israel Have a Michelin Star?

Israel is home to some of the most renowned restaurants in the world. From the streets of Tel Aviv to the hills of Jerusalem, diners can find some of the best food in the Middle East.

But does Israel have a Michelin star?

In short, no. The Michelin Guide, which awards stars to restaurants based on their quality and service, does not currently operate in Israel.

This is largely due to the fact that Michelin has not entered into a formal agreement with any Israeli restaurant or guidebook publishers.

Despite this, there are several Israeli restaurants that have been recognized by other international restaurant guides. For example, Erez Komarovsky’s Catit Restaurant in Tel Aviv has been recognized by San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants for several years in a row.

It was also named one of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2019.

In addition to Catit, there are many other acclaimed Israeli restaurants that have received recognition from international guides and critics alike. For example, Yotam Ottolenghi’s acclaimed restaurant NENI has been featured on prestigious lists such as San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants and Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.

It is clear that while there may not be an official Michelin star awarded to an Israeli restaurant yet, there are certainly plenty of great dining options available throughout Israel for food lovers from all over the world. With so many wonderful restaurants to choose from it is likely only a matter of time before an Israeli eatery earns its way into the coveted list of Michelin starred establishments.

Conclusion:

At present, Israel does not have a Michelin-starred restaurant due to its absence from the respected dining guide’s list of establishments. However, there are plenty of acclaimed Israeli eateries that have earned recognition from other reputable international guides and critics – indicating that it is likely only a matter of time before an Israeli restaurant earns its way into the coveted list of Michelin starred establishments.
