Michelin-starred restaurants can be found all over the UK, with the majority being in London. This is due to the sheer number of high-end establishments located in the capital.
However, there are also Michelin-starred restaurants scattered across the country, from Cornwall to Scotland.
The Michelin Guide has been awarding stars since 1926 and there are currently 135 restaurants in the UK that hold a Michelin star. The most stars any restaurant has achieved is three and there are currently 15 restaurants that hold this accolade.
The majority of these three-starred establishments are located in London with the rest scattered around England and Wales. Notable examples outside of London include Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Cornwall, L’Enclume in Cumbria, The Fat Duck in Berkshire and Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottinghamshire.
Restaurants with two stars make up almost half of all Michelin-starred establishments (60 out of 135) and these can be found dotted around England, Wales and Scotland. Notable two-starred restaurants include The Ritz Restaurant at The Ritz hotel in London, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay also located in London and The Waterside Inn near Windsor.
One star restaurants
The remaining one-star Michelin-starred establishments make up the bulk of all UK recipients (75 out of 135). One-star favourites include Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons near Oxford, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester in London and Midsummer House in Cambridge.
These starred establishments represent some of the best food experiences you can have in Britain; however they don’t come cheap. With that said, there are offers available throughout the year from some top chefs which make these experiences more accessible for those on a budget.
In conclusion, there are currently 135 Michelin-starred restaurants across the UK with 15 holding three stars, 60 holding two stars and 75 holding one star. These prestigious establishments offer some of Britain’s best culinary experiences but come at a cost – thankfully there are offers available throughout the year which make these experiences more affordable.
