Is Gino d’Acampo a Michelin Star Chef?

Gino D’Acampo is one of the most recognizable faces in the cooking world, renowned for his Italian cuisine and passion for food. He has become a household name with multiple TV shows, cookbooks and restaurants to his name. But is Gino D’Acampo a Michelin Star chef?

Background

Gino was born in Torre del Greco, Italy in 1976. After training at a local hotel school, he moved to the UK in 1996 and quickly gained notoriety as an Italian chef. His first television show ‘Let’s Do Lunch with Gino & Mel’ launched in 2009, which was followed by other popular shows such as ‘Gino’s Italian Escape’, ‘There’s No Taste Like Home’ and ‘The Restaurant Inspector.

Gino has also released several cookbooks, including the best-selling ‘Gino’s Italian Escape: 100 of My Favourite Recipes from Italy’. His restaurants have been successful too; he currently owns three establishments in England and Scotland.

Michelin Star Status

Despite all his success, Gino is yet to achieve Michelin star status. This could be due to the fact that he is mainly associated with home-cooking rather than fine dining. He has opened up fine dining restaurants in the past but these have closed down relatively quickly due to lack of interest from diners.

Achieving Michelin star status can be difficult even for experienced chefs; it requires commitment and dedication towards creating fine dining experiences that are both flavourful and visually appealing. Gino may not have had this focus until recently when he opened up his new restaurant ‘La Sala by Gino d’Acampo’, which serves classic Italian dishes with a modern twist.

Conclusion

Whilst Gino d’Acampo has achieved great success as a celebrity chef, he has yet to receive recognition from Michelin Guide which awards stars to chefs who demonstrate excellence in fine dining cuisine. It remains to be seen whether his new venture ‘La Sala’ will gain him the much sought after status as a Michelin Star chef.
