Does Philippines Have a Michelin Star?

The Philippines has been known for its vibrant culinary scene and its flavorful cuisine. As a result, there has been an increasing interest in the country’s restaurants and chefs, including whether any of them have ever received a Michelin star.

A Michelin star is the highest honor that a restaurant can receive from the prestigious Michelin Guide. The guide was first published in 1900 by brothers André and Édouard Michelin as a way to encourage people to drive more and explore new areas.

The guide has since become an international symbol of fine dining, with chefs all over the world aspiring to be awarded at least one Michelin star. A restaurant must demonstrate excellence in all aspects of its operation, from the quality of ingredients used to the level of service provided, in order to receive a Michelin star.

Unfortunately for Filipino food lovers, no Filipino restaurant or chef has ever been awarded a Michelin star. This is partly due to the fact that the country does not have its own edition of the guide; instead, restaurants in Manila are featured in either the Singapore or Thailand editions.

Despite this, there are still some Filipino restaurants that have achieved international recognition. For example, Chef JP Anglo’s Sarsa Kitchen + Bar was named one of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2018; it also received a Bib Gourmand award from the Miehelin Guide Singapore.

Conclusion:

So while no Filipino restaurant or chef has yet achieved the honor of being awarded a Michelin star, there are still plenty of excellent options for diners looking for delicious meals prepared with care and attention. There is hope that one day soon a Filipino restaurant will join those on the exclusive list of Michelin-starred establishments around the world.
