The UK is home to some of the world’s best restaurants, and this includes a number of establishments that have achieved the coveted three Michelin stars. The Michelin guide is the most prestigious culinary guide in the world, and a three-star rating is regarded as the highest accolade a restaurant can receive. In the UK there are currently eight restaurants that have been awarded this honour.
The first of these is Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester in London, which was awarded three stars in 2011. The restaurant serves contemporary French cuisine prepared by Chef Jean-Philippe Blondet, and its menu features dishes such as seared scallops with black truffle risotto, veal fillet with turnip puree, and wild sea bass with citrus fruits.
The second three-star restaurant in the UK is Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, also located in London. This establishment was opened by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay in 1998 and has held its three Michelin stars since 2001. Here guests can enjoy dishes such as confit pork belly with honey glazed baby vegetables, red mullet with artichoke barigoule and roasted turbot with crab ravioli.
Another London restaurant to be awarded three stars is The Waterside Inn, which has held its star rating since 1985. This restaurant offers traditional French cuisine prepared by chef Frédéric Colin who has been at the helm since 2018. Outside of London there are four more restaurants across the country that have been awarded three Michelin stars including L’Enclume in Cumbria, Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons near Oxfordshire, Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottinghamshire and Midsummer House in Cambridge. All of these restaurants offer exceptional cuisine prepared using only the finest ingredients available to them locally.
Finally there are two more restaurants that hold three Michelin stars but are not listed on the main guide – Sketch Lecture Room & Library in London, which was given its third star for 2019; and The Fat Duck in Bray which received its third star for 2020 after being closed for refurbishment for two years previously.
