What Is Costa Rica’s Famous Food?

Costa Rica is a small country in Central America with a population of about 5 million people. It is well known for its beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and active volcanoes.

Tres Leches Cake, which literally translates to “three milks cake” because it’s made with three kinds of dairy- sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and heavy cream- layered on top of a sponge cake base topped off with whipped cream frosting.

Tortilla De Platano, which translates to “plantain tortilla” is an interesting variation on the traditional Corn tortilla used throughout Latin America. Instead of corn flour this version uses mashed plantains as its base along with eggs, cheese or other ingredients depending on personal preference.

Chorreadas, which are essentially pancakes made from corn flour combined with cheese then fried until golden brown before being sprinkled with sugar before serving.
